Frank Ocean to record with Kanye West & Jay-Z
Kanye West utilized Justin Vernon and his emotionally comatizing vocals to fill the depths of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But for his upcoming collaborative album with Jay-Z, the Chicago-born MC seems to be going with the soulman from hip hop’s most buzzed about collective: OFWGKTA’s Frank Ocean.
While rumors of a leaked tracklist and release date have filled the web in recent weeks, Kanye and Jay-Z still appear to be working on Watch the Throne, as evident by a recent post on Ocean’s Tumblr. In an entry responding to his “five-years-ago self,” Ocean writes, “I don’t wanna spoil too much for you, but.. you’re on a plane right now to the East coast to work with Kanye West and Jay-Z. It’s all working out kid. You made it.”
Of course, this is not the first time the 23-year old Ocean has crossed paths with hip hop’s two kings. Ocean also teamed with Jay-Z’s wife, Beyoncé, on her new album, plus he had tacos with Hov during South by Southwest this past March. As for his connection to Kanye, he is reissuing his Nostalgia, Ultra album through Ye’s current label, Def Jam.
There’s currently no official timetable for Watch the Throne‘s release, nor has a tracklist been announced. However, along with Ocean, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, and Madlib are all said to be contributing to the effort as producers.
