Update: The August 22nd reissue of Sophtware Slump detailed below will not be released in the U.S. However, the band will be reissuing Sophtware Slump and two other studio albums, 1997′s Under the Western Freeway and 2003′s Sumday, in the U.S. on vinyl on July 19th. These versions will not include bonus material.
When it comes to the Internet, where the population’s attention span is about 30 seconds, the world hasn’t heard a whole lot from former Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle lately. He still tours and even did a nice cover of “Heart of Gold” with Midlake last month, but with his last studio album, Music Meant to Accompany the Art of Ron Cameron, at already a year old, it seems like a good time to pull the rabbit out of the hat once again.
TwentyFourBit points out that August 22nd will see the reissue of Grandaddy’s sophomore album, 2000’s Sophtware Slump (via Universal/V2). The look back comes as a celebration of the 11-track effort’s 11th anniversary and will be packaged alongside a second disc, which will contain B-sides, alternatetakes, demos, EP-only songs, and other rarities from the early 2000’s. It seems like the reissue should’ve happened last year for Sophtware’s tenth birthday, but the 42-year-old Lytle disagrees.
“I’m pleased to acknowledge the reissue of The Sophtware Slump. All of this is occurring in honor of the approximate 11 year anniversary,” he said. “Yes…..11 years. Much better than 10.” It’ll be a few more weeks until fans can get their hands on the release, but those dying to hear anything from Lytle should head to his SoundCloud page in hopes for a morsel of new music.
