Lollapalooza reveals 2011 schedule

on June 07, 2011, 11:24am

Given its massive bill (six headliners included), two months offers ample enough time to formulate your Lollapalooza schedule. So right on queue, the Chicago-based extravaganza, which is set to take over Grant Park 58 days from now, has revealed its day-by-day breakdown. So what’d we got?

Friday features a clash of the UK titans as Coldplay and Muse play opposite ends of the park to close out day one. And if that weren’t enough of an “ouch,” dance-inducers Ratatat and Girl Talk also hit the stage in the 8:00 hour. Another nasty conflict comes before the two main headliners: Bright Eyes opens for Coldplay, while A Perfect Circle plays before Muse. But all is not lost, especially with that swing slated for the North End featuring The Kills into Mountain Goats into Bright Eyes. Other solid picks for Friday include Sleigh Bells, Cults, Delta Spirit, and Smith Westerns.

On Saturday, Eminem and My Morning Jacket headline the festivities, with Cee-Lo Green opening for the former and Ween the latter. As for the day’s big conflicts? My Morning Jacket vs. Beirut, DFA 1979 vs. Big Audio Dynamite, and Lykke Li vs. Atmosphere are a few of the more nasty ones.

To close out the festival, you’ll have your choice of rock (Foo Fighters), hip hop (Kid Cudi), or electronica (Deadmau5). If you chose option one, then a camp out might be warranted, especially since Arctic Monkeys The Cars, and Titus Andronicus all play Q Music Unlimited prior to Dave Grohl and co.. Sunday features less noticeable conflicts than the two other days, but The Pains of Being Pure at Heart vs. Jay Electronica and Best Coast vs. Portugal. the Man are hard to swallow.

Below, you can check out the entire schedule for yourself. Also, please feel free to share your thoughts, thrills, gripes, etc. in the comment section.

One-day passes are on sale for $90 beginning today. Three-day passes, priced at $215, also remain available. Visit the festival’s website for complete ticketing info.

This is one of the most dull and uninteresting line-ups I have ever seen.

Bright Eyes v. Skrillex, Lykke Li v. Glitch Mob v. Atmosphere, and Coldplay v. Girl Talk v. Muse are my main conflicts. Any suggestions?

So glad that I skipped this festival. Totally generic lineup.

I feel like everyone is hating on Lolla just to hate on it.  Yeah, it’s a little underwhelming considering we thought Perry would go all out for the 20th Anniversary, but the lineup is so similar to the other big fests, how can it be hated on so much more?  Ofcourse, if you went to Coachella and Sasquatch, Lollapalooza would be pointless since so many bands are recycled.  Lollapalooza gets a bad rap because its toward the end of the summer.  If Lolla was in April and Cocachella in August, everyone would say the same thing about Coachella.  They don’t plan fests for everyone around the country to attend every single one.  Obviously there are alot of the same bands.  Get over it.  We had the Strokes and Arcade Fire last year.  Everyone (Coachella, Roo, Sasquatch) have bands that have played Lolla the past couple years (i.e. Arcade Fire).  Suddenly though, Lolla is “generic”

I agree Dan
Hating on Lolla has just become the hip thing to do this year.
People make fun of Lolla booking Eminem while they ignore the fact that he is also playing Roo.

Oh no, we’re not ignoring it. Worst #1 billed at Roo ever. Hour and a half set at Roo is weak but at least the undercard at Roo isn’t this weak

I read where he’s just closing a stage to avoid all the traffic they had in that area last year. Pretty sure they figure he’s not going to be drawing all that big of a crowd. Forget a surprise Jane’s set, Lolla isn’t too good with surprises, everything is scheduled to the second and they stick to hit pretty hard, unfortunately.

Sad that there will be no X Japan this year. :( That said they’re on to a world tour and likely need the rest between gigs soooo yeah. But they stole the show last year – one of the absolute best bands ever
