Video: Radiohead debuts “Staircase” in the Basement

By Alex Young on June 21st, 2011 in Hot, News, Video

For the first time since Radiohead released their eighth LP, The King of Limbs, fans will be able to watch the acclaimed outfit perform the material live. Beginning July 1st, the BBC will air Radiohead – The King of Limbs: Live From The Basement, a 55-minute broadcast featuring the band performing their album in a “studio setting with some additional behind the scenes material.” Of course, seeing as The King of Limbs clocks in at less than 40 minutes, you have to figure a few other songs will be performed to pad out the time. Lucky, lucky us it just so happens to be a brand new one.

Today, the band is offering an early teaser of the whole shindig in the form of a previously unreleased track titled, “Staircase”. If that weren’t enough of a surprise, the performance also features Phil Selway’s doppelganger Clive Deamer on percussion. If you’re still reading this, kick off your Tuesday the right away by watching video above.

Great, great song. I think people are going to look back on 2011, realize they got 60 minutes of new Radiohead music, and feel pretty lucky. There was so much hand-wringing over the length of King of Limbs, but since we’ve gotten at least 15 minutes more of great material that fits cleanly into the sound of that album. You may miss the guitars, but you can’t say you were cheated.
