In May, we reported that Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton, and Anand Wilder would be putting things together for the follow up to Yeasayer’s sophomore LP, Odd Blood, and the band even took to Conan a week later to debut a new song, “Devil and the Deed”. Our own Chirs Coplan described the cut as being “comprised of pained vocals, junk noise, awesome rhythm, and a healthy dose of straight rockin’ funk,” and it seems as though the boys are looking to keep with that theme as they revealed another new track during a June 7th gig at the Phoenix Theatre in Toronto.
Sidewalk Hustle has posted this video of the band performing a track tentatively called “Henrietta”, and the five-and-half-minute jam finds Keating taking lead vocal duties as his comrades lay down a new wave groove that Bernard Sumner, Morrissey, and the late Ian Curtis would all be proud of. The track opens with a spacey synth lick and generally follows in the joyfully danceable sonic footsteps of “Devil”, and while we were already sold on the idea of a new album, this is just going to make the waiting hurt that much more.
Check out “Henrietta” below, and if any of you call Boston, Washington D.C., Philly, or New York City home, then get out to see the band live at one of the tour dates listed below the video. Tickets are available at SeatGeek, and Odd Blood can be had at Amazon.com.
