Your childhood is ruined: Michael Jackson didn’t actually sing on The Simpsons

on June 27, 2011, 4:00pm

Like a parent telling their child the truth about Santa Claus, we’ve got some bad news: Michael Jackson didn’t actually sing on The Simpsons classic September 1991 episode “Stark Raving Dad”. D’oh!

In an interview with TMZ, Simpsons actress Yeardley Smith (who voices Lisa Simpson) revealed that Sony blocked Jackson from doing any of the singing for Jackson’s character, the large bald-headed mental patient Leon Kompowsky, who actually thought he was Jackson and serenaded Little Lisa with “Happy Birthday, Lisa”. Jackson, who was credited as John Jay Smith, instead handpicked impersonator Kipp Lennon, who also sang for the King of Pop during the miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream.

The news comes just days after the second anniversary of Jackson’s death. Relive “Happy Birthday, Lisa” above and remember a time when the world was good and just.

Does nobody Google anymore? Seriously, if you’ve learned something from TMZ, look it up before you accept it as fact or call it “News,” as you’ve done here.

This is old news, actually. It’s been on Wikipedia for ages, and the Simpsons creators publicly talked about how MJ got someone else to sing his parts quite a few years ago . . .

FYI, you can hear the REAL MJ singing the “Lisa It’s Your Birthday” song in the un-aired demo, on YouTube:

it was actually a prank michael played on  his friends and family, the speaking parts were undoubtedly michael, but the singing part made his family be like ?? is that reall you michael, because the singer really dosent sound like him and michael hand picked him, but michael did eventually record the song, lisa it’s your birthday heres a link

Not a prank. For contractual reasons, he was not allowed to lend his singing talents to the Simpsons. =/

But both stories might be true, too — I’m can imagine MJ thinking it would be funny to tell people who knew him that he sang on the Simpsons, just to prank/test them. XD
