For the latest album from the Black Lips, the Atlanta four-piece added some polished studio magic and Mark Ronson-facilitated pop sheen to their sound and came up with Arabia Mountain. Despite how nicely they’ve cleaned up, the band haven’t forgotten that they used to drink piss on stage. Adjusting accordingly, the video for “New Direction” (available above via Listen Before You Buy) is a slice of cuteness served up with a heaping of DIY ethos. Flying around the world, jamming out with all their might in a clip done purposefully to look cheap and goofy, those good old boys are reassuring their public that they’re still wild and crazy punks at heart. Message received loud and clear.
