Animal Collective member Panda Bear (born Noah Lennox) makes experimental music that may be familiar and beautiful to our ears, but probably pretty foreign to the layperson Late Night viewer. NBC, presumably unsure how to temper Lennox’s experimental bent, offered a slide show of 15 pandas without comment in honor of his solo television debut. Wicked cute guys, but clearly you’re nervous about putting a guy who’s openly terrified of performing on stage.

Turns out they need not have worried a bit. Lennox performed the opening track, “You Can Count On Me” from his latest solo LP Tomboy with the help of frequent collaborator Sonic Boom tinkering on the synths and ODDSAC director Danny Perez providing the light show.
