In March, a slew of artists from Devendra Banhart to Snow Patrol were announced as contributors to a tribute album for UK folk-rock icon John Martyn, who died in 2009. Our first taste from the 30-track Johnny Boy Would Love This A Tribute to John Martyn came last month in the form of The Cure’s Robert Smith tackling “Small Hours” from Martyn’s 1977 LP One World.
Now, the world can hear Beck‘s rendition of “Stormbringer” from Martyn’s 1970 album with his wife Beverly Martyn entitled Stormbringer! (courtesy of Some Kind of Awesome). Like Smith’s ode, Beck’s eccentricities pour over the track without taking away from its earnest, folksy simplicity.
Johnny Boy Would Love This A Tribute to John Martyn is in stores August 16th.
