When Crooked Fingers, the side project of Archers of Loaf frontman Eric Bachmann, announced the band’s sixth album Breaks in the Armor, press for the record spun some rather poetic and decidedly unclear prose, writing that the LP ”seems to suggest that the breaks in the armor are more important than the armor itself”. Well, at least that explains the title.

While we were rightly mystified by that statement, our first taste of the album, “Typhoon,” sheds some light on the mysterious concept. The aloof, minimalist cut is particularly damaged sounding, demonstrating that being open and available really does mean having true strength.
