Check Out: Umphrey’s McGee – “Miami Virtue”

on August 03, 2011, 1:31pm

Time has debuted the latest song from prog-rock jam banders Umphrey’s McGee. Titled “Miami Virtue”, the track is off their forthcoming 12th studio release Death by Stereo, out September 13th via ATO Records. As we previously mentioned, the band’s website is still promising the official album artwork and tracklist “shortly,” whenever that may be. In the meantime, you can placate yourself by listening to “Miami Virtue” below.

And while Umphrey’s McGee is known for tickling the Phish sensory parts of our brains one minute, only to hurl us into a full-blown rock ‘n roll sonic experience the next, “Miami Virtue” seems a little subdued by comparison. It still has all the usual stylistic flares from the band: the dense melodies, the laid-back yet expert craftsmanship, and the always-tight rhythm section. But it lacks that visceral punch we’ve come to expect from a group that makes a point of blowing minds every time they take the stage.

Of course, Umphrey’s is, and always will be, a band that lives more for the stage than the studio. So with that segue, you should check out the band’s expanded 2011/2012 tour dates below for a chance to hear “Miami Virtue” live.
