Comic book artists organize Smiths-inspired collection

Step aside Lady Saga, there’s a new musical Superman flying in to save the day: The Smiths. Yes, everyone’s favorite moody English rockers will have their songs translated into comic book format by a slew of artists and writers later this fall/winter (via Exclaim!)

Led by Phoenix, AZ resident/comic book publisher Shawn Demumbrum, Unite and Take Over: Comic Book Stories Inspired by The Smiths asks a simple question: “What story plays in your head when you listen to your favorite Smiths song?” That query was then posed to a number of Demumbrum’s friends and comic artists and so far 13 scripts have been approved (that list, along with accompanying artists/writers, is below).

According to Demumbrum, each song acts as “an inspiration, jumping off point, theme or mood for the story. Each story varies in style and genre.” The plan is to debut the four to eight page stories, which will be combined into a 74-page collection in November at the Tucson Comic Con. Demumbrum is currently a little over a third of the way to his $3,000 KickStarter goal, which ends on September 11th (those willing to contribute can head here).

Between this and the Rhino boxset, not even Morrissey’s stupid comments about the tragedy in Norway can prevent you from spending all your money this holiday.
