Wasn’t it fun hearing rough and early recordings of Nirvana’s Nevermind this month? What if you did that with The Beatles? Well, come November, you’ll have that opportunity. Thanks to a deluxe two-disc effort by Time Life, fans of The Fab Four will be able to hear John, Paul, George, and Pete. Wait, what?
Due out November 8th, The Beatles With Tony Sheridan: First Recordings focuses on the group’s early beginnings, specifically their work alongside original drummer Pete Best and singer Tony Sheridan (via Variety). At the time, roughly 1961-62, the four had been supporting Sheridan while performing for Polydor exec Bert Kaempfert. While the majority of the songs see Sheridan on lead vocals, the set also includes the Lennon-sung tune “Ain’t She Sweet” and George Harrison’s instrumental “Cry For a Shadow.” No telling if they’ll also include McCartney’s boom-box demos from Liverpool (we’re kidding).
As is tradition with these sort of releases, the set itself will also sport some additional goodies, including a specially-designed book that includes rare photos by Astrid Kircherr, signed contracts, original artwork, and some notes by Beatles historian Hans Olof Gottfridsson. Hopefully those will help tell the story many fans have yet to hear.
