Giveaway: Drive Prize Pack

By Michael Roffman on September 23rd, 2011 in Giveaways, News

If you haven’t seen Ryan Gosling in Drive yet, do yourself a favor and visit your local cineplex this weekend – or tonight. Channeling his inner ’80s Michael Mann and John Carpenter, director Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, Valhalla Rising) has carved out 90 minutes of pure cinematic glory. It’s a sparse tale about a Hollywood stuntman, who doubles as a hired wheelman, dealing with a heist gone wrong. Both Gosling and Albert Brooks deliver head-turning performances, while Refn solidifies himself as a director to follow. On top of it, there’s one scorcher of a soundtrack, featuring an original score by Cliff Martinez and songs by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx, The Chromatics, Desire, College (w/ Electric Youth), and Riziero Ortolani (w/Katyna Ranieri). Believe us: You see this film, you’ll want the soundtrack (and that goddamn jacket, too).

But, Consequence of Sound has a special giveaway to save you the effort. Here’s what’s up for grabs:

  • 1 copy of the soundtrack
  • 1 copy of the Drive book
  • 1 pair of Driving Gloves
  • 1 Keychain
  • 1 USB Car Charger
  • 1 USB Drive
  • Character Posters:
    •  1 Driver
    • 1 Nino – Ron Perlman
    • 1 Irene – Carey Mulligan

Interested? Tell us what song you like to drive to in the comments below. We’ll choose our favorite entry to win all the Gosling-related swag above. Contest ends 9/25/2011. Here’s a soundtrack trailer for the film:

There’s so many but I have to pick one I guess it would be Aphex Twin – Xtal. Just having that song blasting through my speakers on the open road, especially a scenic road on a sunny day, is close to perfect.

“Hand Covers Bruise” by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. GREAT night driving song, especially if your feeling a bit edgy.

Are the songs from the movie off limits? Because as soon as I saw that trailer for Drive that was simply the heist scene, I was looking for Tick of the Clock by The Chromatics for days. I bought the album the day I saw the movie and have been bumping that track since.

It’s funny, because my neighbor’s a cop so everytime I see his car I turn up the volume and hold my breathe as I “Drive” by. :)

    “Touch Up” by Mother Mother

A friend helped my boyfriend and I move from Chicago to Seattle a few years ago.  We started playing the song to keep us awake during the trip but 2000 miles and 20+ plays later we had a choreographed dance complete with individual breakdowns and a big finale.

Best song to drive to ever. Seriously.

Not to bite on another comment, but Neon Indian’s Hex Girlfriend has gotten some heavy rotation in the car and totally sounds like it could be a track in the film.

    New Order – Blue Monday

An incredible song to listen to when driving at night. Its cool 80′s beats never gets dull as you’re driving in the streets of your city. Memorable, electric and dark. It almost like it could have been added on the Drive soundtrack, which I enjoy very much.

Summer never ends with Real Estate’s “Beach Comber” I love rolling down the windows to this song, even in the dead of winter. Just remember to bring a coat. Drive was such a great movie, and the soundtrack is excellent, I’d love to drive around to it. But no toothpick in the prize pack?

The Killers “All These Things That I’ve Done.” It sounds like I’m still in High School, but the entire albums just bleeds nostalgia. A few years ago me and a couple friends of mine went to go see a Flaming lips concert and on the drive back we were lost and ready to pass out. I browsed through my friends ipod as he drove while the other person fell asleep in the back. We were ready to just give up and find a hotel, but then I put on this song and the Killers on shuffle and it gave us the energy and will to not even care about anything else.

Ulysees by Franz Ferdinand. It gets a bit trippy through the middle and keeps me more than alert
    on the road.

  • Spee

Chase by Giorgio Moroder (from the film “Midnight Express”).

Dance Yrself Clean by LCD Soundsystem. It’s pretty chill and then three minutes in the music  becomes epic. Any song that can make me feel infinitely cooler while driving my old Volkswagen Jetta is okay in my book. Even if my fellow drivers don’t get it and are frightened by my LCD Soundsystem induced dance/reckless driving antics.

“You Think I Ain’t Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire” – QOTSA. I promise I haven’t broken any laws and/or maimed anyone.

Any song by Explosions In The Sky. They are AMAZING songs to drive to especially during a country cruise or a late night drive home.

i spent a lot of time trying to think of a super pretentious (but awesome) choice, then i remembered that every road trip ends up in the dark abyss of pop-punk that i keep on my ipod in case of road trips. that being said, i really love driving to the gaslight anthem’s 59 sound.

sweet contest, btw. i can’t wait to use the gloves to *************************************** like gosling did in drive. (starred out due to spoilers, you know how it goes).

I like to drive to “Too Young” by Phoenix, especially late at night on freeways in the hearts of cities.

The question made me remember one of my favorite driving moments. It was a few years ago and I was going to meet a blind date. I was nervous as this was going to be my first “date.” I remember my hands were clammy and when I left I decided that I would use music to relax. I had recently purchased She and Him Volume 1 and had it in my CD deck. The song “Sentimental Heart” came on and immediately the violin strings combined with Zooey’s ethereal voice and the drive melted away from stress filled to a beautiful summer drive. That is the power of music, in that a song can become associated with excitement and a mixture of peace and calm.

Matadjem Yinmixam by Tinariwen. I play it when I’m driving through the North West Texas landscape and feel like a modern day nomad, and I play it when I’m driving through big cities because it makes me feel like I just got off a plane, seeing a foreign place for the first time.
