Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Shins to appear on Jimmy Fallon’s Pink Floyd tribute week

Daaaammmmmnnn, ol’ J-Fal has done it again! Billboard reports that Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will spend all of next week paying tribute to Pink Floyd, and the late night talker has tapped some of the biggest names in music to help him out. Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Shins, and MGMT will all appear as musical guests, covering various Pink Floyd selections. What’s more, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and Nick Mason will both sit down with Fallon; Waters will also be performing with Foo Fighters. Seriously, best late night talk show evah.

The Shins will kick things off Monday, September 26th, when they cover “Breathe”, from The Dark Side of the Moon. On Tuesday, it’ll be Foo Fighters and Waters’ turn, with a sure-to-be-epic performance of The Wall’s “In The Flesh”. Wednesday will see MGMT covering “Lucifer Sam”, off 1967′s The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and Pearl Jam will cap things off on Friday with a take on The Wall’s “Mother”. Country singer Dierks Bentley will perform “Wish You Were Here” on Thursday.

The week-long celebration follows similar tributes carried out by Fallon for The Rolling Stones and Bob Marley. It’ll also coincide with the reissuing of all 14 of the band’s studio albums, along with the release a six-disc box set of The Dark Side of the Moon on September 27th.

Right, they’ll be playing “In The Flesh”.

The Shins doing “Breathe” is fucking awesome. I’ve only heard crappy youtube stuff of it so I can’t wait for a real video. MGMT is pretty much perfect for any of the Syd Barrett stuff, though it would have been super sweet to see Beck cover a song from this era too. I loved the Foo Fighters output from the 90′s, but when they went all cock rocky and boring with One by One I haven’t been able to get into anything they’ve done since, however all that derivative bombast mixed with a band that truly has legit poppy songcraft is gonna make “The Wall” one hell of a peformance (never mind the Waters factor!). What a great idea altogether.

You REALLY need to try out Wasting Light if that’s what you think about Foo Fighters.
