Damon Albarn must drink a lot of coffee. Or, maybe he’s just one of those human beings who only need 25 minutes of sleep. He never stops. In the past year alone, he’s released two Gorillaz LPs (Plastic Beach, The Fall) and toured endlessly to support them. Now he’s back with DRC Music, an experimental collective featuring Albarn, Dan the Automator, XL label chief Richard Russell, and London DJ Darren Cunningham (aka Actress) tackling songs in the Democratic Republic of Congo for only a week. Sounds like a great story, huh? Well, the eponymously-titled, 14-track effort is out digitally this week and we’ve got a video of the song “Hallo” below. In it, you’ll get a rough glimpse of the day-to-day activities of Albarn; more specifically, the recording of the track. Dozens of collaborators join in, a sweaty Albarn bobs his head and fist pumps, and a street-assembled drum kit is played. Dive in.

DRC Music is out digitally this week and will be released on CD and vinyl on November 8th via Warp Records. All proceeds go to Oxfam’s work in DRC.
