lana del rey1 Video: Lana Del Rey performs "Blue Jeans" live at the Premises

Now that we’ve cleared up the name issues, let’s get back to the reason Lana Del Rey first caught our attention. As Disco Naivete points out, the musician born Lizzy Grant recently uploaded a video of her performing “Blue Jeans”, giving us our first true glance at Lana Del Rey from a live setting. According to the video’s title, the performance was recorded ‘live from the Premises,” and it sees Del Rey accompanied by an electric guitarist. Check it out below.

Disco Naivete also points us to a listing on for what appears to be the upcoming debut full-length from Lana Del Rey. As previously reported, Del Rey told GQ that her album could arrive as soon as January, which jives with the January 23rd date listed on Amazon. We reached out to the musician’s representation for comment and will let you know if and when we hear back.

Below, you can find a listing of Del Rey’s upcoming tour dates. Her debut single, “Video Games b/w “Blue Jeans”, is out tomorrow via Stranger Records.

I (respectfully) disagree. I heard the track before I ever saw it or her. I will admit I was surprised to see that voice coming out of that mouth but her voice is singular, but just because she’s young and pretty doesn’t mean she automatically has to get discounted, the song is a great track and I think lots of singer/songwriters would have killed to have penned that or Video Games. I don’t listen to a lot of Katie Perry, but there’s a lot more earnestness in this song than I’ve heard from a lot of pop lately. You’re entitled to your own opinion and, yeah, hopefully this is a forum where people with differeing tatses can still express their opinion, but slagging her off as karaoke sounds harsh and maybe a little misguided. If I heard this at Tuesday Night Karaoke, yeah, I ‘d go to Karaoke a lot more.

My bad for thinking this is a space where we talk about music and artists and instead of products and moneymakers. You’re right, competing against the other frauds that dominate this industry is what this girl was meant to do- it’s not the kind of arena where you need to be talented, otherwise she and many others would be out of luck.
Lots of people work their asses off, but it doesn’t mean that they’re good at what they do- Katy and Lizzy Grant included.

You dumb ass. Playing an instrument isn’t the one and only qualifier for a “real” musician. Many of the greatest songwriters of all time were gifted vocalists who could phrase melody better than any dope with a Pete Yorn sticker on their guitar. It is plain as fucking day that this girl has a very unique and advanced grasp of vocal phrasing. Is she the second coming or something? No, but don’t discount the fact that she writes her own music, which believe it or not can be done by someone who doesn’t play an instrument, and think she is just a karaoke talent. You sound dumb and misinformed about music and songwriting (which you are I guess).

But you’re not talking about her. You’re just bashing her. So what do we do with the ocean of musicians who can’t write a song? Umm, her songs are good songs. There aren’t many people who actually write good pop songs. It’s not easy. The music business, the book business, etc. have always been about products and moneymakers. Even pro sports is based upon image. Dostoevsky, Dickens were wrting to eat not make art. Who cares what’s behind it all. And it’s pop music not a cure for cancer, or Beethoven or Duke Ellington. As for her image, it’s deliberate and smart as hell.
