With the future of Sonic Youth uncertain beyond this weekend, guitarist Lee Ranaldo has announced plans for his first song-based solo album, Between the Times & the Tides. Due for release on March 20th via Matador, the album features contributions from current Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, former Sonic Youth drummer Bob Bert, Wilco’s Nels Cline, Jim O’Rourke, Irwin Menkin, Alan Licht, and John Medeski.

On December 16th, Ranaldo will perform with Licht, Shelley, and Menkin at Brooklyn’s Glasslands. Additional tour dates are planned for 2012.
