Following their 2011 reunion tour, Godspeed You! Black Emperor planned to begin work on new material. In what could be our first taste of their efforts, the Canadian post-rock icons have scheduled their first tour date in 2012: they’ll play the Fernwood Resort in Big Sur, California on April 15th. Tickets go on sale Thursday, December 8th at 12:00pm PT via FolkYeah.com.

Update: As CoS reader James L. points out, the band has also announced a five-night stand at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall in mid-April. Check out their current itinerary below.

That’s all the Godspeed You! Black Emperor news for now, but to save others the effort: it’s 354 miles to Indio.

I sheepishly stand corrected. I’m still in shock that they are playing Coachella.  Can’t wait!

How would you expect them to play at Coachella?  Have you ever seen them or heard them of them playing a major music festival like Coachella?  Do you know their track record?  When they actually tour they usually play small venues usually non traditional music venues like art studios and such.  Plus the fact that they hate anything main stream i.e. corporate sponsorship, Ticketmaster.  I would be very surprised if they played a major corporate music festival such as Coachella.

Coachella? Signs point to yes. This lineup’s potential is already huge.
