Last night, Rhode Island’s own Deer Tick stopped by Conan to perform “Funny Word”, one of many whiskey-soaked anthems off their latest LP, Divine Providence. Behind a Kurt Cobain-designed Fender Jagstang – which is all too fitting given the band’s previous alter-ego Deervana – vocalist John McCauley trudged through the messy rocker like a true Westerberg scholar. If there’s any band that matches its sound, it’s Deer Tick. A beard, some flannel, and a support group of scraggly hair are all key ingredients to any grand bar band. They’ve got it all and they play the card well. Following the performance, when O’Brien hopped on stage to greet them, McCauley hooked onto the late-night host and sloppily said, “Let’s go get a beer.” Go join ‘em below.
