Australian radio station Triple J’s Like A Version covers session has delivered gold in the past, like Regina Spektor’s cover of Radiohead’s “No Surprises” or The Kills’ reworking of “One Silver Dollar”. Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner is the latest rock star to have hit the studio, recording a version of Patsy Cline’s “Strange” (the track also makes an appearance during Monkeys performances of “Fluorescent Adolescent”).
The cover is decidedly simple and lonesome-sounding with Turner providing some slightly rockabilly-esque vocals to the strum of an acoustic guitar. The heartache of the original is still alive and well, but Turner adds a sheen of Buddy Holly-ian pop to make it something truly his own. Take a listen at We All Want Someone to Shout For.
