Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist Jason Drake, better known as Cassettes Won’t Listen, is clearly a fan of alt-leaning ’80s acts (his retro nom de plume should have been something of a hint). In the past, Drake’s covered The Cure’s “Let’s Go to Bed” and INXS’ “Need You Tonight”. For his latest homage, Drake has tackled the Pixies’ “Hey”, from 1989’s Doolittle. The end result is a massive, sweeping wave of bubbly electro instrumentation and overly distorted vocals. Though it may sound almost nothing like the Pixies version, the oddball aesthetic and punk-ish abandonment is still intact. Check it out below (courtesy of Slicing Up Eyeballs).
