Singer-songwriter Matt Pryor has been around the block a few times with stints as the lead singer for The New Amsterdams and, more famously, The Get Up Kids. He’s also something of an amateur farmer. In addition to his work with beloved alt-pop-punk bands and produce, Pryor has cultivated a solo career and released his first solo album, Confidence Man, back in 2008. On January 24th, he’ll release his sophomore LP, May Day, via his own label Nigthshoes Syndicate.

For a taste of the new record, check out the track titled ”Your New Favorite”. Like much of Pryor’s solo work, the track reflects the aesthetics of a more standard folk minstrel, with strummy acoustic guitar, a faded sense of nostalgia, and even some harmonica garnish on top. Even with a low-key approach, Pryor still manages to infuse his trademark “emo” energy, making for a track that’s decidedly vintage and decidedly modern. Take a listen to it below.
