On April 3rd, New Orleans blues great Dr. John will return his latest LP, Locked Down. Recorded in Nashville late last year, the new album pits the 71-year-old musician with The Black Keys Dan Auerbach, who handled production on the project.
Auerbach first proposed the partnership in late 2010, insisting he’d produce “the best record [Dr. John] made in a long time,” according to an issued press release. Last year, they hallmarked their friendship with a dynamite Superjam at Bonnaroo.
Auerbach states in the same release: “Mac inspired me every single day we were in the studio together: musically, spiritually, cosmically … something special seemed to be happening and everyone involved could sense it. For my money, Mac’s one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be … I’m so honored to have had this opportunity to work with him.”
Locked Down hits stores April 3rd via Nonesuch, marking Dr. John’s first release with the label. Stay tuned for additional details, including an audio preview. In the meantime, catch a clip of last year’s Superjam below.
