The latest single from Colorado electro-wizard Derek Vincent Smith (aka Pretty Lights) is as delightfully soulful as anything he’s released up to this point in his career. “We Must Go On” is a sample-heavy cut that drips of a keen hip-hop sensibility and also a firm R&B swagger. Behind a downtempo drum beat and a delicate guitar riff, the vocal sample that repeatedly croons ”times will get better” sounds as if it could easily have been lifted from a Marvin Gaye song.

The track is accompanied by a music video that was filmed and edited by Smith himself alongside Krystle Blackburn. The simple video consists of a collage of shots capturing mostly images of city life, and juxtaposes visions of poverty and homelessness with ones of more lighthearted hustle and bustle.
