In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Dive frontman Zachary Cole Smith revealed that Nirvana’s “Dive” is “actually about us” (explains the band name if nothing else). How fitting, then, that one day after the anniversary of frontman Kurt Cobain’s death, Dive would cover Cobain’s pre-Nirvana home demo “Bambi Slaughter”. While maintaining the original’s home-spun feel, the band embellish their version with fits of post-punk-ish guitar fury and swirls of mesmerizing effects. Best of all, Cobain’s trademark angst is intact, albeit with a slightly more artsy edge to it. Stream it below (via A Heart Is A Spade).
Dive’s debut album, Oshin, hits stores on June 26th via Captured Tracks.
