Electro producer/DJ Orlando Higginbottom (known more awesomely as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) started working the one’s and two’s in 2008. Since then, he’s released a series of singles and EPs, participated in Damon Albarn’s DRC Music project, and remixed the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. All that momentum leads up to June 12th, when TEED releases his debut album, Trouble, via Casablanca Records.
In a press release, TEED said the aim was to make an earnest record that steered clear of unending fades, adding, “I hoped to make a record that felt free from the frequent short-lived trends in dance music, and that made sense to a dancer and a listener. I feel like I’ve been working on this debut album for ages and now I can’t wait to get it out there.” The release went on to add that the record sees TEED “completely immersed in the role of vocalist, providing the story with a genuine heartfelt quality” while still offering up his “trademark sub-bass, electro bounciness and washed-out synths.”
For a snapshot of TEED in action, check out the recently-revealed music video for “Tapes & Money”. Bathed in warm neon-colored club lights, TEDD, dressed as a punk-ish Mayan warrior-god, dominates an insatiable sea of club-goers despite having the ferocity and stage presence of a librarian. The track, then, seems to be doing most of the heavy lifting, filling the air with a mix of ethereal synths, quirky drum beats, and TEED’s waifish moans of ecstasy. Watch it below.
