Last night, Sufjan Stevens, The National’s Bryce Dessner, and Nico Muhly came together once more to perform their Planetarium concert event as part of the Sydney Vivid Festival. The super-trio ended the evening with Stevens’ solo rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, which you can replay below (via Paste). The minimalist cover features heavily modified vocals (think HAL 9000 using a vocoder), adding a distant, robotic air to the otherwise saccharine number.

For more footage from the show, including performances of  ”Jupiter” and “Mercury”, head over to The Naked Envelope.

Some commentators are really too, too hip for their own good. “Otherwise
saccharine number?” Go back to Brooklyn and shut up.
