Chicago blues artist Willis Earl Beal was arrested on Saturday night after allegedly assaulting a homeless man at Le Guess Who Festival? in the Netherlands. According to reports by RTV Utrecht (via Pitchfork), the man began hassling Beal during his set, at which point Beal retaliated by kicking him in the face.
Beal ended his performance before the final song, telling the audience, “Because of a few bad apples, we all miss out on one more glorious, fantastic, lovely performance. I love you, and I even love the guy whose face I kicked in. I love him, too. He’s a good guy! He’s just drunk, a little” (watch Beal’s parting words below).
As of the initial report’s publication, Beal is still being held by Dutch authorities. His representatives have yet to comment.
