Chicago’s Spring Awakening Music Festival stages its biggest edition yet from June 16-17th at the city’s historic Solider Field. Headlining the strictly dance music event are Skrillex, Moby, Afrojack, Benny Benassi, and Carl Cox, among other local and international EDM producers.
Consequence of Sound has a pair of tickets to the Chicago dance party, and we’re giving them away to one lucky reader. All you have to do is fill out the Google form, which asks for your name, e-mail address, and a reason for why you should be our winner.
Also below check out a brief interview with Spring Awakening’s Zach Partin.
Chicago already has so many festivals, how does Spring Awakening stand out in the city and among other dance heavy lineups?
Spring Awakening Music Festival is not dance heavy festival, it is the first all dance music festival in the birthplace of house music. Something of this magnitude has never been done at the historic Soldier Field, so we’re very excited to make this happen.
Spring Awakening was previously held at Chicago’s Congress Theater, what spurred the move to Soldier Field?
After the success of the initial years at Congress, we realized we wanted to reevaluate and bring something to the people of Chicago that they wanted. With the growing level of interest in dance music, the timing was perfect.
How have Chicago officials welcomed the festival?
They have been more than welcoming and we appreciate everything the city has done for us. The same goes for the staff over at Soldier Field, as they’re just as excited about Spring Awakening Music Festival as we are.
How many stages will Spring Awakening offer? Will these by separated by genre?
Four stages, including Laidback Luke’s recently announced “Super You and Me” stage. Expect more details in the next couple weeks.
SAMF offers a wealth of local talent, what is the current scene in Chicago and how have you seen it grow in the past few years?
Honestly, the scene in Chicago is flourishing. Every genre and subgenre is well represented, from the house music the city was founded on to the newest incarnations of dubstep, people of all ages are getting involved any way they can. Outside of producers and DJs, the music education programs are fostering young and hungry students who are eager to get involved.
Are there plans for late night events?
Yes, we recently rolled out parties across Chicago’s late night hotspots. Skrillex, A-Trak, Dillon Francis, Benny Benassi, Claude VonStroke, and Diplo are just a few of the names that will be performing following SAMF. For a complete list, and venue details, be sure to check out their homepage.
We’re excited to see people from Chicago and from all over the world come out for this historic event at Soldier Field. And for all the non-winners, tickets for Spring Awakening are still available here.
