We went to see Skrillex in Camden around October. We went, ‘Fuck, it’s so heavy,’ loved it. I was like a full metal gig, they had circles of death, people were moshing, I hadn’t seen a reaction like that to electronic music before. We took inspiration and came up with ‘The 2nd Law: Unsustainable’.”

That’s drummer Dom Howard speaking to NME on Muse’s sixth studio album The 2nd LawSinger and guitarist Matt Bellamy followed up:

Some of that hard dubstep and brostep coming from America, is capturing the imagination. The moshpit has moved from guitars and gone towards the laptop, so with that song we’re trying to see if we can challenge the laptop. We created something that was dubsteppy but we wanted to see if we could do it with real instruments. We wanted to ask, ‘Can rock bands compete with what these guys are doing?’

The 2nd Law is out September 18th via Helium 3/Warner Bros. Watch the album’s dubstep-flavored teaser trailer below.

Didn’t KORN just try to go this route? … At least this new stuff from MUSE doesn’t sound EXACTLY like every other song they have ever created! I was a big fan when they first broke onto the scene years ago… only to find out they create every single song to sound the same as the last… Sweet creativity, dudez

…what are you talking about? Stockholm Syndrome sounds nothing like Butterflies and Hurricanes which sounds nothing like Starlight which sounds nothing like Knights of Cydonia (and that’s just a list of some of their singles). They have just about as diverse of a catalog of any band out there.

“I found it quite funny, the dubstep thing, because there’s maybe two tracks that have a whisper of that. It was funny watching the public panic: ‘Muse have turned into a dubstep band!” ~ Chris Wolstenholme in the same interview. Translation: CALM THE FUCK DOWN

Of course they chose to be influenced by the ‘American’ frat dubsteppers. Muse could care less about being creative, or innovative in the least bit which is sad. My Son is a disappointment.
