My Morning Jacket headlined the famed Newport Folk Festival last night, and there was no shortage of special guests. Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard sang vocals on a cover of The Band’s “It Makes No Difference”, and Jim James’ Monsters of Folk collaborator Conor Oberst appeared with Ben Sollee for “Smokin From Shootin’”. Sollee and Laura Veirs also sat in for “Wonderful (The Way I Feel)”.

Watch a replay of the entire performance below, plus see the full setlist (via Live Music Blog). And stay tuned for our own coverage of Newport 2012, which will be posted early this week.

1:05: Cloak of invisibility, huh?
You guys came through Charlotte about the same time last year and the show was a little late because it rained, but I made a handy dandy hoodie out of a garbage bag and stayed snug and dry. Still had jury duty the next morning, though. Hope to see you in a couple of weeks, if all the details come together right. :)

The set ended short due to a thunderstorm with torrential rain. I was there and without a rain jacket – I got soaked but didn’t care at all. The crowd’s energy surged during I’m Amazed as it poured. My friend caught a print out of the full set list after the roadie threw it out into the crowd. 3 more songs were on the list – Carnival Time, Gideon and Circuital to close. I think we got the best of the set. What we got was unforgettable and beautiful.
