The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will make a major announcement at 6:00 pm PST today, and it may have to do with the launch of the festival’s very own cruise. According to the Los Angeles Times, promoter Goldenvoice plans to expand the Coachella brand with a music-themed cruise, which could set sail from Florida as early as this December.

Update: According to Billboard, the Coachella cruise will feature Girl Talk and Cloud Nothings.

If true, the Coachella cruise would become the latest in an increasing number of music-themed nautical excursions. Other annual events include Holy Ship!, Jam Cruise, and Bruise Cruise.

The news also comes on the heels of Coachella’s much-publicized dealings with the Indio City Council over proposed tax hikes. Earlier this month, Goldenvoice threatened to leave Indio, CA in favor of a new location if the 5 to 10 percent ticket tax was put in place, which in turn caused the city council to quickly table the proposal.
