The Austin City Council has unanimously approved a resolution that clears the way for Austin City Limits to expand to two weekends in 2013, reports KUT News. The resolution encourages the city manager “to negotiate and execute an agreement” with the festival’s promoter, C3 Presents.

As previously reported, under C3′s proposal, the festival would take place October 4-6th and October 11-13th. In return, C3 would increase the money it donates each year to help improve Austin parks (including Auditorium Shores), pay for additional security and cleanup crews in surrounding neighborhoods during the festival, and keep a portion of the festival grounds — Zilker Park’s Great Lawn — open to the public during the four days between the two weekends.
