van halen Eddie Van Halen recovers from emergency surgery

Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen recently underwent emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis, according to the band’s Facebook page. The condition affects the large intestine and causes abdominal pain. The 57-year-old Van Halen is expected to fully recover within four to six months; however, as a result, the band’s forthcoming November dates in Japan will be delayed until 2013.

This isn’t the first time the California outfit has had to postpone their itinerary on this tour. Back in May, an entire block of North American summer dates were nixed. Those have yet to be rescheduled.

A Different Kind of Truth, the band’s first album with frontman David Lee Roth in over 28 years, is out now via Interscope.

I suffered from and had surgery for diverticulitis in 2009 & I can tell you that it’s completely recoverable in healthy people. I wish Eddie all the best for a speedy recovery. I wonder what is causing people to develop diverticulitis at younger ages?

Its diet mainly and sometimes drug use. Also, 57 is not really a young age to have it. It’s predominantly found in seniors but mid to late 50s is usually when it starts developing. Think 57 is young? I had it turn from divirticulosus to diviticulitis at 27. Almost killed me (well sepsis and peritonitis did) because they could not diagnose it properly,

Same here. I abscessed and ended up in the emergency room before I found out I was suffering from it. A doctor misdiagnosed me & I went for nearly 3 months without proper treatment. Good thing I recognized that a fever of 103 and inability to eat solid food was a reason to go to the ER or I’d have died too.
