In a meeting of two of Nashville’s most rocking acts, Mona frontman Nick Brown and Kings of Leon bassist Jared Followill have united to form Smoke & Jackal, and on October 16th, the pair will release their debut EP via RCA Records. Recorded earlier this year at Brown’s home studio, the six-track EP1 was “fueled by multiple bottles of red wine and a shared fascination with timbre, rhythm, and aural adventure,” resulting in an “evocative and original melding of oceanic rock with bottomless grooves and hypnotic dub textures.”

The EP’s first single, “No Tell”, sounds closer to Brown’s band than the work of the Followill clan. KoL’s grandiosity and pomp are in full effect, but Brown’s delicate vocal stylings and the uplifting guitar chug dominate the track.

EP1 Tracklist:
01. Fall Around
02. No Tell
03. You’re Lost
04. Road Side
05. OK OK
06. Save Face

Even though this project sounds pretty close to Kings of Leon
(naturally) I am a big fan. My favorite track is “You’re Lost.” Another
new-ish band that I have found along the likes of these guys is Wild
Belle. Check them out if you’re an S&J fan.
