Chicago’s spectral R&B counter-tenor How To Dress Well (aka Tom Krell) does great covers of R&B bummer jams from the 90′s. For your consideration, this older cover of R-Kelly’s “Waking Up To Life Sometimes Seems Worse”, and this new cover of Janet Jackson’s torch song “Again”. It’s been a staple of his live shows for some time now, but now you can check the gorgeous studio version below.
“Again” will be out on a 7″ available as part of the deluxe pre-order of HTDW’s sophomore album Total Loss, which is available for pre-order from Acéphale here. The 7″ also includes an a cappella version of the Total Loss track ”Set it Right”, and a cover of Robbie Basho’s “Blue Crystal Fire”, which if you didn’t know, is very beautiful, and a total bummer jam.
And you’ll get your chance to hear all these songs of new and old when Krell hits the road in October for a world tour, starting in the U.S. and then heading over to Europe. Those dates are also below.
