The Polyphonic Spree announces holiday album
After years of annual Christmas shows and last year’s “It’s Christmas” single, The Polyphonic Spree will deck the halls this year with their debut holiday album (their first full-length since 2007′s The Fragile Army). Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays Volume One will feature ten holiday standards, two original instrumental compositions, and a cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy X-Mas (War is Over)”.
Among the standards covered are a “spacy, shape-shifting” version of “Do You Hear What I Hear”, an ethereal take on “Winter Wonderland”, and “Silver Bells”, which features School of Seven Bells. Production was provided by Knife and Fork’s Eric Drew Feldman (Captain Beefheart, PJ Harvey, Frank Black) and The Speekers (The Spree’s Tim DeLaughter and Julie Doyle).
Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays Volume One hits stores on October 23rd via Good Records Recordings/Kirtland Records. In support of the LP, the band will be on tour this fall, with a few dates already announced below, and more in Philadelphia and Chicago to be unveiled shortly. Toys and canned foods will be collected at each show to benefit Toys for Tots and the North Texas Food Bank.
