In Photos: Silversun Pickups at Oakland’s Fox Theater (9/12)

Last night, Los Angeles’ Silversun Pickups headed north to perform at Oakland’s Fox Theater. It’s been almost six months since the band’s third LP Neck of the Woods dropped, and they’ve yet to take the proverbial exit off the highway. What’s more, singer/guitarist Brian Aubert announced that bassist Nikki Monninger is currently with child — clearly, they’re working their asses off.

It’s a solid tour: Openers School of Seven Bells and Atlas Genius offered amicable support, Silversun’s light show dazzled aplenty (bouncing off white backdrops to create rainbows and Rasta flags), and, despite technical difficulties here and there, the band remained at top form. For example, rather than throw an Axl Rose-inspired fit when his guitar spazzed out, Aubert insisted the band, instead, play “Three Seed” with no guitar. No scoffing, no attitude, and no drama.

Basically, anybody who still loves loud guitars can appreciate their all-too-familiar sound anywhere or anytime.
