Kanye West sued by TufAmerica
Looks like Kanye West “better call Saul” because TufAmerica is suing him. According to Billboard, the label cites that “Who Will Survive in America?” and “Lost in the World”, off West’s 2010 opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, include misused samples from Eddie Bo’s 1969 single, “Hook and Sling, Part 1″.
TufAmerica bought the rights to the single by the late New Orleans pianist over 15 years ago and claim that although Roc-A-Fella and Universal Music Group paid its licensing fee of $62,500, they ”failed and refused to enter into written license agreements that accounted for their multiple other uses of ['Hook and Sling'].” West also used the sample in the video for “Lost in the World” and the short film for “Runaway”.
New York attorney Kelly Talcott represents the label, which is seeking undisclosed damages for copyright infringement. The complaint has been filed with the Manhattan federal court.
