Depeche Mode announces new album, world tour

Start stretching those limbs! Depeche Mode will return in 2013 to release their 13th studio album and embark on a globe-spanning tour, their first since 2009-10’s “Tour of the Universe”.

The English electronic outfit, led by Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher, announced the news this morning during a press conference webcast from Paris, France. Produced by Gore and Ben Hillie, the album will contain 20 songs described as a cross between “Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion.” Below, you can hear a demo of an unnamed tracked played during the news conference (via slicing up eyeballs).

The album will preface the tour’s kickoff, which is set for May 7th in Tel Aviv, Israel. The European jaunt also includes festival appearances at Sweden’s Peace & Love, Belgium’s Rock Werchter, Spain’s Bilbao BBK Live, and Portugal’s Optimus Alive!. Dates across North America are planned following their overseas run. Consult the full itinerary below.

Wow… The world is filled with critics… The band, the mix, the myth, are nothing less than rock solid gold!… Great stuff guys… Thanx

really love you guys but you’re absolutely clueless. mute/distort/whatever… fucking pull back from the vocals. christ, this is a general rule and more inline with today’s electronic music. and this was BEFORE i heard the horrifically awkard performance above. or enjoy you’d 40+ dying niche. let gore take over. please. no offense but gahan needs to be part of the orchestra and not a smoking monkey

I didn’t notice the clip I heard as electronic at all, maybe that is part of the point. Have your misgivings, naturally, but keep listening to tracks as they become available and be sure to tell us how you feel. i’m interested to know, because, while i enjoy the maaterial immensely, I get your point too, so keep in touch.
