James Murphy addresses rumors that he’s producing Arcade Fire and Yeah Yeah Yeahs
James Murphy spoke with The Huffington Post to address the recent rumors that he’s producing new albums for both Arcade Fire and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Based on a series of non-committal answers in past interviews, Murphy has been linked to Arcade Fire’s fourth LP. The former LCD Soundsystem leader did not outright deny a collaboration, but said the speculation of him being the album’s producer is “not necessarily true.”
“We don’t work like that. Because I work with friends, if I have time and they’re doing something and I’m on the East Coast, then we can do something. But also they don’t need a producer, in a way. They produce themselves. When I was making my record, any number of people came and spent a couple weeks or a week hanging out and being involved in the process.”
Murphy was much more emphatic when it came to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, refuting claims that he is currently involved in their new album despite his recent time in the studio with guitarist Nick Zinner.
“I just did a little fun stuff. Nothing really big; I don’t have time and they don’t have time. I think they’re done with their record now, I was just fussing around. I didn’t make their album. They’re just friends.”
Well, there goes that potential McWorld tangent universe.
