New Music: Soundgarden – “Non-State Actor”

By Michael Roffman on October 31st, 2012 in New Music, News

Soundgarden has dropped the second cut off next month’s long-awaited reunion record, King Animal. Following their lead single “Been Away Too Long”, “Non-State Actor” grooves back to 70s-laced riffage and shuffles with political commentary by frontman Chris Cornell. “And we settle for/ A little bit more than everything,” he croons. “We’re not elected/ But we will speak.” He hardly sounds angry, which feels odd given the seething lyricism, and admittedly it’s a little subdued. Still, drummer Matt Cameron throws in a tight set of percussion and that riff should make the kids over at Guitar Center happy. Stream below (via Yahoo! Music).

King Animal hits stores November 13th via A&M.
