Tomahawk — the reunited super group comprised of Mike Patton, The Jesus Lizard’s guitarist Duane Denison, Mr. Bungle’s bassist Trevor Dunn, and Battles’ drummer John Stanier — will release Oddfellows, their first album in six years, on January 29th via Ipecac Recordings. Now, a good three months and some change ahead of its release, the band has issued its first listen with “Stone Letter”. Stream it over at Spin.com.
“You don’t know me, know me anymore,” Patton screams over guitars that chug and squeal over locomotive harmonies and jazzy percussion. It’s an urgent release from an act that’s clearly ready to hit the stage and destroy something — perhaps the minds of their many fans.
Also don’t forget, the outfit has plans for an exclusive Record Store Day single of “Waratorium” set for RSD’s Black Friday affair on November 23rd. The release will be pressed on 7″ vinyl and backed by an original etching by famed cartoonist and comics scholar Ivan Brunetti. A digital release will follow on December 4th.
Though, if that’s not enough, you could check out one of their first live performances since 2003. Their short jaunt kicks off in Nashville on October 27th and includes appearances at New Orleans’ Voodoo Experience and Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest. Then in February, they’ll be back on the road again for a handful of festival dates, including Australia’s Soundwave and both Latin American installments of Lollapalooza.
