Director Baz Luhrmann is no stranger to great music. Moulin Rouge flourished from a rich, diverse catalog of songs and his re envisioning of William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet spawned multiple soundtracks that went on to define a key section of the ’90s. Now, the Australian director looks to be doing the same as he braces for his next vision: next year’s retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
According to The Playlist, Lady Gaga and Prince will write new material for the film. While speaking with actress Adelaide Clemens, who plays Catherine in the film, she revealed that “some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film,” and went on to add that, “I don’t think Warner Bros. are going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door.”
Originally, the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring film was slated to premiere this December, but was pushed back to May 10, 2013. Peep the film’s trailer below, which already sports a bevy of modern talent, specifically The Throne’s “No Church in the Wild” and Jack White’s U2 cover “Love is Blindness”.
