Seminal California punk band Rancid celebrate 20 years together this year. In recognition of the platinum anniversary, Pirate Press Records has teamed with the pioneering punks to release the outfit’s entire discography in one, too-hot-to-hold 7″ box set their calling, simply, Essentials.
Every recording the band ever released, from their Self-Titled 1992 EP to 2009’s Let The Dominoes Fall, has been remastered and repressed onto 46 7″ vinyls. For those counting, that’s a massive 92 sides of music. The collection comes housed in a gorgeous leather box, and includes 2007’s B Sides and C Sides plus an acoustic recording of most of Dominoes Fall.
Essentials will be available in three limited color variations: red (1000 pressings), white (500), and white with red splatter (500). Those who nab the mail-order exclusive white version will also get an Official Rancid Louisville Slugger, numbered 1-50 (!). Those opting for either of the other limited edition white versions will get a bonus double-sided flexi vinyl featuring two cover tracks.
If you prefer to only grab your favorite entries in Rancid’s discography, you’ll be able to select “album packs,” available in the same colored vinyl variations as the complete set and each with new artwork. DJ-friendly black vinyl versions of each individual 7″ will also be available.
Pre-orders for any and all of these releases are now ongoing at Pirate Press Records’ website. Below, take a look back at Rancid’s beginnings with the clip for “Salvation”.
