RZA’s directorial debut, The Man With the Iron Fists, isn’t hitting theaters till October 26th, but we’ve already got another film from the Wu-Tang member to look forward to. Hollywood Reporter, um, reports that the rapper-producer-director is teaming up with comic book creator Grant Morrison for a big screen adaptation of his latest work, Happy!.
Morrison (Batman, New X-Men, The Invisibles) is one of the most critically exclaimed comic writers of the last three decades. Happy!, which just hit stands a few weeks ago, focuses on Nick Sax, an alcoholic “ex-cop turned hit-man, adrift in a stinking twilight world of casual murder, soulless sex, eczema and betrayal.” (Sounds straight up RZA’s alley, right?) When a hit turns bad, Sax ends up severely hurt and with a new friend/hallucination: a tiny, blue, winged unicorn named Happy, who helps him track down a child killer in a Santa suit. (Oh yeah, RZA is all over this one.) Tonally, the story has been described as a mix of – get this – “It’s a Wonderful Life, Sin City, and Care Bears.” (Anyone else stupidly excited for this?)
Morrison will write the script, while Reginald Hudlin (The Boondocks, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained) will produce .While we anticipate this future Oscar nominee (is “Best Execution of Most Top-to-Bottom Ridiculous Concept” a category?), check out the NSFW red-band trailer for The Man With The Iron Fists below.
