Unfortunately, Andrew WK will no longer be traveling to Bahrain as the United States’ Culture Ambassador to the Middle East after the State Department concluded Andrew’s “offer of showing the Persian Gulf island nation the ‘power of positive partying,’ did not pass muster.”
As DCist reports (via Stereogum), a State Department spokesperson also refuted Andrew’s claim that he was ever designated a cultural ambassador, explaining that “embassies around the world routinely invite artistic and cultural figures to make appearances.” However, as the spokesperson concluded, “The embassy determined that was probably not a best choice and didn’t meet our standards.”
Update: Andrew said on Twitter, “I’m just blown away. After a year of planning, the US State Dept. just canceled my Middle East trip because I’m too party.”
Maybe Andrew can instead get a cameo on 24 — err, I mean Homeland.
