Although his latest album artwork suggests he’s some sort of lupine Kelly Slater, Tom Morgan is actually the frontman of beloved, intermittently re-united Australian slacker outfit Smudge, as well as the co-writer/collaborator with pal Evan Dando on two early ’90s Lemonheads albums. That tried and true indie pop tradition continues on his new solo LP, Orange Syringe, a disc dripping with quirky lyrics and shimmering guitars that have “just the right amount of jangle.”
The album is slated for February 2013, but Fire Records will drop lead single “Taste For Blood” a few months earlier on December 3rd. But if that’s still too far away to handle, we’ve got the A-side ready for you today. The smirk overrides Morgan’s limber delivery of toothy lines, stuff like “I know what you’re made of / and you’ve got a taste for blood”, as retro organ curls like a wave under one hooky guitar riff.
