It’s been 10 months since Outkast last shot down the possibility of a new album, so just in case you built up any hope since then, they’ve done it again. Coincidentally, today saw the publication of new interviews with both Big Boi and André 3000. Both were asked about the state of Outkast and both gave the same answer — André just isn’t interested.
In an interview with Hot 97 this morning, Big Boi explained he’s ready to make a new Outkast album “whenever [Andre] is ready to do it.” However, he shot down the notion that he’s waiting for André, adding “I’m on my second [solo] album, I’m not waiting on anyone.”
In a separate interview with the Village Voice, Big Boi revealed that André was also not interested in contributing to his new upcoming solo album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. He explained: “He could’ve been on any song he wanted to. I gave the motherfucker about five songs, but I guess he was just too busy. He said he had to do some Gillette shit [room erupts in laughter]. No for real. He said he had some contractual obligations.”
So what’s up with André? In his own new interview with SPIN, Three Stacks admitted that he’s in no rush to recorded, and at times is even disinterested at the entire idea. “I go to the grocery store and people are like ‘Hey, where’s that new album?’ It’s great that people care, but I don’t know what I’ll do. Maybe I’ll do an album and maybe not. Some days I feel like it and some days I don’t.”
